A Review: Deception Point
The Plot
Deception Point opens with NASA making an unbelievable discovery. An ancient meteorite is found deeply buried within an artic glacier. To prove the authenticity, several scientists take samples of the huge rock, that contain fossils of life forms not being previously seen on our planet. Among those people, chosen by the current President, is Rachel Sexton, whose responsibility is the presentation of this incredibly important find, which could catapult NASA into the next century.
In the meantime the election campaigns are running. Senator Sedgwick Sexton is also running for the Presidency. He wants to abolish and trim the state-aided financial support of the totally failing agency. Privatization is his demand and he has already some interested parties invited for further discussions. But on the other hand there is the current President that is the heart-advocator of NASA and its achievements despite of drastic mistakes. Sexton’s thoughts about abolishing NASA in its current form are seemingly useless and failing when his own daughter presents the extraterrestrial find.
After the very authentic presentation a mysteriously dead body is found on the glacier site by Rachel and her friends. The scientists are hunted by a Special Ops, Delta-Force. Their flight, with a lot of loss, leads them to a submarine where they find neutral help.
As a matter of course, a romance between Rachel and Tolland is developing gradually. Both are refugees of a force, powered by an extremely high-level government unit.
SPOILER: Biologist Tolland attempts to find more information about the fossils. Despite of struggling hard to separate truth from deceit, they succeed in revealing that the meteorite was inserted by the NASA’s head, who intended to improve the bad image of NASA and its failing missions.
Fortunately, the President is innocent and was also blended by the tempting deception. The backstabbing Senator got double-dealed by his secretary by admitting having an affaire. Logically, that revealing truth has the president winning the next election.
About The Author
Dan Brown is for sure a gorgeous member of the contemporary popular authors whose readers get a thrill by reading his novels. Modern topics and current issues are very likely for the books he has written, but technology and science are also included credibly.
Most of his novels are highly awarded due to his growing writing skills. The People magazine calls him “A New Master of Smart Thrills!”
Brown graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy, where his father was a math teacher. Before he became a full-time writer, he taught English at Phillips Exeter. He currently lives in New England. His wife is an art historian and painter. She supports him and inspires him for research of his novels.
Brown’s Methods of Writing
Dan Brown tends, like in many of his books, to develop clearly separated storylines. The lines are drawn clearly until the book reaches its top. There all the strings are reunited and each the backstabbing work is revealed.
When Dan Brown writes a book he never forgets the technical background and correctness. This fact is very popular among his readers but can get a bit exhausting when he wants to explain, for instant, a physical progress. (But maybe this annoying part of the book is caused by my bad technical language skills. Tough, I have already learnt a lot about science.)
My Opinion
To put it into a nutshell, the book was really pleasant to read lying on the beach of Greece. Despite of 35 degrees, I often shivered because of the realistic situations and feelings while the narrator being on the artic ice-shelf, ironically. I really fancy Dan Brown’s writing skills and that’s why I think his books are always good to read. Although it has 500 pages, it shows no clue of lengthiness below the end-line.
I would really recommend choosing this book because it is thrilling with its twists and turns until the last page.
