Gmail Gets Color Labels
I am glad to announce that Gmail has got color labels (they’ve appeared in my GUI just today), which just look awesome to me. I’ve been waiting for this because with the quantity of emails you receive and store in Gmail (just to lazy to delete my archives) color labels offer a better overview. Now dealing with tons of emails is more of a visual experience, isn’t it?
I wish they could (I know it’s hardly possible) enable that feature in Apple Mail.app! Let’s dream on. Besides, Gmail keeps rolling out great new features (IMAP, new user GUI, Group chats…) and let’s face it, their online applications are amazing. Don’t you love Google for their offers and don’t you hate them for combing through your emails?

I’ve never liked the concept of labels. I can understand why labels are superior over folders, but after I’m done reading the mail, I just put into to the archive. If I need to look for something, I just use their Oh So Brilliant search and I usually find it.
Also another reason I didn’t use the labels is because they looked bland…Now with having added colour, I think I might just get into labeling my conversation.
And what’s this “new user GUI” you talk about? :| (I still have the boring old blue colour and layout)
Don’t you love Google for their offers and don’t you hate them for combing through your emails? - HAHA Nice one.
The new GUI has several advantages. For example you can now use the forward/back button in your browser. They have a new contact manager (all new design and new functionality). The Drop Down for actions doesn’t look that dumb anymore. Labels got colors. And slight changes in the design (it did only change marginally).
The new features are usually announced at the very right top of your browser.
Oh and by the way, I am a fan of labels. Now that I am using it via Mail, I can’t use them a lot anymore. Why I am into labels? Well, because I might do some online shopping and in the same email I get a password and a username and so I have the one single mail that needs to be filed into two labels. Or, if I book a flight (online shopping again) and I have several emails about my trip to, say, Scotland, I (don’t have to), but I want to GTD (GET THINGS DONE) this way. :)
Ahh.. ok, GUI meaning functionality. When you said GUI I associated it with the graphical user interface… not the enhanced functionalities, but I see your point as well.
I wish Google would have built in way to tweak the colour a bit… i know greasemonkey can do those things, but i hate using 3rd party modules to enhance a site’s look, because the changes don’t travel with you (work, home, school…)
I’m actually starting to like labels. I filed away about 50% of my inbox (about 100 emails)… so maybe I’ll get used to them.
And like I said before, I love colour and now that gmail added colour to labels, it makes things a lot more attractive.
Well, they changed the system of coloring labels, so that effects the GUI.
I don’t see Google changing their color schemes anytime soon. Look at Google Calendar, they do try to be consistent. However, I am not too sure about the baby blue (inbox) and the flash green (when browsing in filters).
We’ll see. I don’t want to use those plugins or scripts. I’m not the plugin kinda guy. A plugin has to be really good for me to use it. See the zip Folder plugin for Mac OS X Leopard ;-)
Dude, there’s AIM now available. Google. Tzz… Is that some sort of charity organisation? :P
