Lingo Bingo #3: Horses & Barns
You shouldn’t rush things (2 Lingo Bingo episodes on 1 day… Is it Christmas already?), but I really can’t help publishing this very saying. All I can say is that I was talking to Julia (you really don’t want to have the context in that case). The saying is US American (I couldn’t possibly put that to the Austrian Special!):
Why close the barn door after the horse is gone?
Meaning: Why should we spend time to prevent a problem/incident that has already happened?
I just couldn’t find an equivalent. Sorry. Maybe you do know a German saying that deals with the same topic.

also, wolfgang: die phrase auf deutsch: warum sollten wir das scheunentor zumachen, wenn das pferd schon längst entfohen/gestolen/weg ist.
heißt einfach etwas unnötig machen und du hast mich auf die lösung gebracht, glaube ich:
Eulen nach Athen tragen. Kann das jemand bestätigen? ich bin mir nicht sicher, aber es hat eine ähnliche bedeutung oder?
eulen nach athen tragen is eher, dassma was komplett fürn hugo macht ^^
das mit dem scheunentor sagt für mich eher aus, dassma eine gegenmaßnahme zu spät beginnt…
also zum bsp wenn…wolfang stell dir vor du hast bei deiner scheune (gesetzt den fall du hast eine) das tor offen gelassen und die pferde vertschüssen sich in der nacht….und in der früh machst das tor dann zu…is halt zu spät! :D

nur was ist jetzt mit den eulen? ich mein man kann ja noch immer eulen nach athen tragen, nur verspätet man sich um ca 2000 jahre :P

okay, geeez. eulen nach athen tragen ist ein ähnliches sprichwort, ein sprich wort wenn man etwas unnötig macht.
