Screw the Metric System
45860535 double decker buses & 148395 Manhattan Islands
It’s quite common that bloggers, journalists and writers (the list is of course ordered by descending importance) try really hard to facilitate (make easier) the illustration of content.
So it is quite obvious that, say, when talking about incredibly lengthy lengths, enormously spacious spaces, unbelievably high heights, extremely speedy speeds — okay, I think you are getting my point — or fairly numerous numbers of people, you better compare (I also had to go back to the beginning of the sentence to figure out its ending. Thus don’t feel bad.) the incredibly lengthy lengths, [...] or fairly numerous number of people to something people can relate to and understand. Keep reading, it’s getting even better…
So with clear conscience, I can shout out lout: “Screw the Metric System”, because we can are well aware that the distance from the Earth to the Moon is equivalent to 45860534.5 double decker buses (to six decimal places). So please DO USE measures that Mr and Mrs Ordinary get immediately… Everybody knows that the area of Australia is equivalent to 148394.8 Manhattan Islands. Right?
In case you are still having problems with the conversion of the speed of the Concorde to the speed of Snails, the service also offers the not so common metric system, that we have to get rid off. NOW!
Conversion of Lengths, Heights, Speeds and Areas! (Addintional notes for the conversion factos)
You might have sensed some sort of irony in that entry, so you can contribute to that by posting your favorite conversion. Woho! Conversion used to be a pain in the butt in high-school, but as it is now. FUN FUN.
By the way, I came up with that while having some slight issues with the Metric and older English system.
June 08 - Short update. I just ran into another site, that offers sensible conversions. As sensible as the one mentioned above: sensibleunits.com.

hahaha, hilarious… looks like something I might post. Certain numbers have their places.
Why is my speedometer rated in “footballfields per commercial break” ?
hey, thanks. it is the best system ever.
seems like the speedometer lacks of a correct system. it would rather be footbalfieldlength per commercial break because the system is LENGTH per TIME :P but as you can see, this system kicks the metric’s ass!
haha
