9/11 — Isn’t it an amazing fact about human psychology, that every one of us can clearly remember that day. September 11, 2001. Seems like this day and all its emotional associations were burnt into our retinas and minds, irreversibly and unforgettably. I decided to gather some thoughts on terrorism and that situation that had a huge impact on our lives. 6 years ago things were different.
UPDATE: FM4 article on what has changed since 9/11. Interesting thoughts that kind of made me shiver.
6 years ago, I switched on the TV coming home from school, not expecting what I was about to learn. Back in the year 2001, I was only 12 years and as a matter of fact I could hardly understand why somebody would want hijack a plane and crash it into a sky scrapper. Today, I am grateful that I have been gaining education and a globally diverse view on the effects of 9/11. With education and insight terrorism and the effect on our everyday life, I realize that hatred is dominating the relation between two worlds, whose values seem to be so different from each other — Are they really not combinable?
In my opinion this fraction is caused by ignorance. It is up to every one of us to work on improving this situation. War clearly is not the answer. Neither is discrimination, hatred or ignorance. Watch this video about racism and ignorant treatment of foreigners — Stop the clash of civilizations.
I honestly do not understand people who do not care about this topic. How dare they? People are constantly losing their lives, leaving behind families and friends. To me it seems like it is up to the western world to make a change. Going on like this, we are going to life next to suicide bombings that pick victims randomly.
The result: A life in insecurity and a possible loss of our dearly beloved ones.It is not that I am dictating a solution. It’s not that easy, but what are you going to say to a suicide bomber who is convinced of quitting his/her life since he would go straight to paradise if he/she kills/dies in the name of his/her praised god? Apart from this religious aspect, this suicide bomber has nothing to lose? Life in poverty looks quite “crappy” compared to life in paradise and endless gratification.
The problem is that kids are being talked into living a life, they have not chosen. So why do kids grow up believing that suicide can be a relief? It’s a lack of education. Here we get diverse views on things that happen around the globe. In a terrorist’s world, censorship and selfish preacher men deprive the kids of their right of education. Isn’t it scary enough, that more kids just don’t appreciate school in the western world anymore?
Another thing that I would like to point out is, that I never came across with the faces of the 9/11 victims. Isn’t unbelievable that ca 3000 people died from the attacks? Have a look at them here.
Last but not least, I wanted to show you the memorial tribute of the attacks in 2004:
