Surfing The World

Since I tried surfing last summer in Santa Cruz (see the surfer’s Statue to your right with parts of the SC Beach Boardwalk) and my surfing expertise looked quite semiprofessional after a 5-minutes-dry-practice, I want to keep you not-soau-courant-with-surfing guys up to date with the latest trend. Check out a video (after the jump) about surfing in a place where the common people aren’t likely to point at when it comes to top-notch global surfing spots.

Websites where you won’t lose touch with the surfing scenes are listed on Drift Surf Magazine’s blog directory. A British magazine that I like to flip through online. Love their blog. And via their website I found the entertaining video dealing with the essential question, how did they make surf boards. 70s’ style.

Most famous surfing spots like Hawaii, California and Australia now will have to compete with a country famous for Guinness, shamrocks and Saint Patty. Ireland’s West Coast’s waves have been quite an attraction for the global surfer community. Just another West Coast, naughty tongues say they keep it easy for surfers for a reason. Har har. For my part it will take some more time until I’ll be able to ride and survive waves like these. Except for the one that isn’t too high in the middle of the movie. I could have riden that one. Watch the video on surfing in Ireland and the difficulties of balancing with a pint of Guinness in your hands:

Coming up: A post on the photography that goes along with surfing and its cult.
