No Wonder Obama Made It

We have been heavily discussing brands and their recognition and perception on this blog. Also I put up some Obama mania entries dealing with recent events. So why not mix it up a bit and look thru this great survey I found (before the election).

Tadaaa: A brand analysis of the presidential candidates’ brand association that was concluded using a survey by conducted Landor Associates and Penn, Schoen & Berland in the beginning of October.

Look through it, now it’s clear why people went for the Obama-Biden ticket, right?

If you spin this a little further and move from brands to everyday products, what would this survey be like? Animal associated with Obama: puppy. Animal associated with Palin: a moose. Now, isn’t this funny?

Together, We’re Schizophrenic

Ich bin die Mutter, die mich verhätschelt [...] Ich bin mein Freund Klaus, der mich besser kennt als ich selbst (WTF?) [...] Ich bin die kleine Schwester die mich dafür hasst (even more WTF?!) [...] Ich bin Maria [...] etc.

Remember my notes on the acquisition of One by Orange? Whereas their spots have sort of refreshed the Austrian “Werbelandschaft” (DE, commercial landscape), I call out for a little change of their slogan which will cause a sudden urge of identification in several additonal Austrians’ minds. Instead of “Zusammen sind wir mehr” (DE, together we are more), I’d go for a “Together, we’re schizophrenic.” I came up with this idea in an interesting state of mind during the Indie Club in Avalon, Krems. Heard “In Five Years Time” and the people surrounding me simultaneously went “Ich bin Klaus.”

I am pretty much everyone. Take that!

My mommy (I) and me (also I)... I am pretty much everyone. Take that!

How about that? Also I wonder what Freud would say about the above quoted statements of the guy who claims to be several personalities he came across with in life and further people he will encounter later in future. Maternal issues? Guess so (since the ad starts with his mother coddling him).

Final note: A lot of German youngest come to Austria to study. No news in that, but I saw dozens of German accented people in the Bim (AUT: tram) babbling on their orange square branded cell or at least talking about signing this plan since it will save multiple Euros.

Brands in Colors and Colors in Brands

0600 in the morning...

It’s been quite a while since I was blogging about brands and our perception on them (more: search my blog for tag: brand). Here is fairly interesting guide to the usage of color in creating brands. Here’s an overview of popular brands connected with the basic color and the feelings and associations it stands for: A Guide To Choosing Colors For Your Brands by usabilitypost.com.

The color you use in your brand not only serves as eye candy but can also portray on what track your company is on (A fresh green to show environmental concerns, a matt blue for freedom). Also who you want to address as a target group (young dynamic blue or green to attract young people). Whether you are modern (lively orange), conservative (dark red or brown to show that you don’t give up on old values - especially long established brands) or liberal. What your company and what kind of services stand for (a saturated red for passion, a warm orange for an inviting atmosphere). And so much more. The color suggestions for the before mentioned notion are chosen by me and do not represent a strict set of rules.

Additional Note: Why Color Matters (via swissmiss)

Research reveals people make a subconscious judgment about a person, environment, or product within 90 seconds of initial viewing and that between 62% and 90% of that assessment is based on color alone.

Is there a color that you automatically associate with a feeling served by a specific brand?

Google Already Knew That, Duh!

Fact is, Google Knows (Already)

I found this Google mocking page (via swissmiss) that displays Google’s knowledge (whatgoogleknows.com) in large Helvetica - or is it Arial -letters. Now that they have the Google Chrome browser, the companies list of things they will know about indivuduals surfing the web will be most likely to be bursting at the seams. Continue reading

Ozapft is’

My association with the attached picture explained as follows: “Ozapft is” is German dialect (Bavarian) for “es ist angezapft” meaning you just tapped a keg of beer. Phonetic pronunciation help should look like this: awww-ts-uh-pft-e-s. Thus this is the ultimate motto for the Oktoberfest (no need to explain that, right? I saw Oktoberfest Sausages at Costco)I figured this little bit of information qualifies for a schnelles (quick) Lingo Bingo and blends in with my sharing thoughts on the internet.

App Turns iPhone Into Wireless Drive

After two weeks of all the iPhone apps I care to download, I can say this: most of them are useless.

DataCase iPhone App Video: Turn Your iPhone Into A Wireless Drive.

iPhone Applications are blossoming since Apple opened the App Store a couple of days ago. Michael Arrington says exactly what I thought from day one when the App Store opened its doors. However, it looks like this is a pretty neat Application (unlike most downloaded-to-test-but-never-touched-in-real-life) that has a great potential, especially for its wireless hard-drive capabilities. Handy dandy. The user-interface could be a little bit more attractive, but that’s probably just me. DataCase for iPhone & iPod Touch by veiosoft.com.

Short update: I am testing thw wordpress application ja automattic.

Guitar Hero III Legends *I* Rock Soon-*ish*

Screw that acoustic guitar you had to practise on in middle school. Guitar Hero is way "funner" according to user experience polls.

Amazon.com: Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Bundle With Guitar: Windows & Macintosh: Video Games.

Usually this time of the year I would spend a large amount of time in front of a Playstation playing video games with my host brother. He’s in the lucky position, since he possesses a Wii, Playstation, Game Cube, Nintendo something thingy. You name it.

Stuck in Austria, I don’t really have any of these time-consuming but fun-giving (fun-emitting would be the fancy way to say it, I suppose) products. I “only” have a Mac, so what am I gonna do then? I’ll go with waiting for Amazon Germany (nearly and almost Austria) to ship the Guitar Hero bundle (Mac version, preferably) to my house. More on Guitar Hero after the jump…
