Get The Smile You Always Wanted - Invisalignly

In case you do not know me personally, only met me in virtuality of the blogsphere, iChat or what way so ever this might be surprising for you. I mentioned it before, but never blogged about it in any specific way. This post is dedicated to my current teeth-straightening treatment I’ve been passing since February 2007.

What the heck is Invisalign? Invisalign is invisible for others, hence the name Invisalign. Inivisable + Alignment.

Break-Up of Coalition in Austria

The ÖVP (right wing) demands new elections and jumps off the coalition board with the left-wing SPÖ. Here is a quote of an ORF article on the reliefing news that the drama finally came to an end today. One question, what have ÖVP and SPÖ done so far? Right, they only kept fighting about who was hindering the other.

FPÖ als lachender Dritter. [...]

Rough translation: FPÖ as the laughing 3rd. [...] The FPÖ, who presented themselves as the “protest party” and reached out with their black-and-white thinking to those who think happenings are too complex anyway, had cashed in on the fights in the administration by ÖVP and SPÖ, said Palme.

So here’s the thing for the upcoming election. People don’t seem to care too much about politics right now, so they are just going to vote for the party who addresses them the most. Black-and-white thinking, if you ask me, does not qualify as reasonable resource. People also happen to not think about the decisions they make in life. So, keep in mind that pretty much everyone gets to vote. Intelligent and dumb.

You can never underestimate the stupidity of the general public. Scott Adams, The Dilbert Future US cartoonist (1957 - )

Looks like the quote could also be changed to “You can never underestimate the stupidity of FPÖ voters.” I don’t mention BZÖ on purpose. Har Har…

Usually I try to keep politic thoughts out of this blog, but I couldn’t help…

Don’t Know Much About Astronomy

Spending the night outside during the hot summer months is really clever to cool down and let the day wind down. Here, in Austria, I have always had a pretty clear view up to the stars. When we were kids we had a bonfire in our garden and we spend hours watching the stars and here and there we claimed to have seen shooting stars. “Duuuude, what’s that blinking light up there, a UFO?” Just before I knew what a UFO was, I always wondered who was in charge of switching up all these lights? I knew it had something to do with Star Trek and all those space ships, but never really had time to elaborate on it in a scientific fashion. Too bad, right?

The dark sky and the little dots have always had a lot of fascination in store for us when we were young and, to be honest, never lost any of its glamour.

On 4th of July and the 5th of July there is a really nice alignment of stars, planets and the moon that you should check out. Mars Phoenix whispered into my ear that Mars, Saturn and the Moon align beautifully after twilight. You shouldn’t miss that.

Read the Nasa entry on Planets Align for 4th of July. See the sky maps to help you navigate through the endless see of stars.

Happy Fourth of July to all my American visitors!

Die Fälscher im Open Air Kino

3. Juli.

Continue reading

It’s Been A Year And I Still Can’t Let Go

It’s been a year since I took off by plane to the Golden State. It’s been a year and I just can’t believe. A lot of things happened since then and this fact really proves that time flies. Working at Dynea, passing my community service and all the experiences that come along with it. At this time of the year I just wish I could board a plane that takes me somewhere else. The thought that I am trapped ALL summer is slightly stressing me out. Just slightly. Sarcasm End.

Not that I am sick of my life here in Austria, it is just that I am anticipating something that isn’t going to happen. Do you know that feeling. This year, no huge trip for poor Philipp. No vacation. Well, I’ll host an American friend for a week, so that should be fun, right? Touring Austria!

Thank you to my host family and all the new friends I made in California. I just wanted to thank you. Even after a year I keep thinking of you and I hope to be back soon. Promised. A YEAR, crazy!

Images like these of typical symbols like Las Vegas, San Francisco (Golden Gate, Transamerica Pyramid, etc.) and travel stuff keep following me. It looks like I can’t let go. No, I just can’t let go.

Here the lines of a song that people who fell in love with The City would sign without further ado to proof the finesse of San Francisco… I Left my Heart In San Francisco by  Tony Bennett.

I left my heart in San Francisco, high on a hill it calls to me
To be where little cable cars climb halfway to the stars.
The morning fog may chill the air, I don’t care.
My love waits there in San Francisco, above the blue and windy sea,
When I come home to you, San Francisco, your golden sun will shine for me.

Good to know that the golden sun will shine for anybody who goes to San Francisco.

So You Love Movies…?

Can you tell the name of the movie by only seeing one letter of the official poster? I would love to see all the people who claim to be “into movies” take this test and watch them fail or - rather unlikely - succeed. Answers after the jump.

Take the test. Continue reading

Continue reading
