Subtitle: Yet another American to show around. My friend Katy from CA visited me for 7 days to discover the mountains and cities of Austria. I took off from work and toured all (nearly, cough, cough) of Aushtria (The valley talk way of pronouncing Austria). Innsbruck, Salzburg, Krems, Dürnstein (even that little town) and Vienna were on oh-so-strict and oh-so-well-outplanned schedule. So yeah, pay a visit to the gallery of Aushtrian Summer 2008… Ask Katy, there was no time for sympathy for numerous blisters.
Soon I will publish a nice tour guide for Vienna. Planning on visiting for a weekend, you should read this including dining tips and specials you shouldn’t miss…
Finally, the devise for Philipp is BACK TO WORK (for 22 more days)…
This is not a typical Sommerloch blog post, no the twitter update attached below is a useful advice to good friendship. A thing that nobody should miss out in life. Speaking of not missing out on things in life: I recently came across with the Buried Life. A project that made a list of things they need to do before they die. Looks like this idea would bring you even closer. My favorites are #1 (Open the 6 o’clock news), #37 (Win and yell “Bingo!” at a Bingo hall) and #79 (Dance with Ellen DeGeneres) and last but not least #96 (Host a lemonade stand).
FYI: Sommerloch - silly season/summer slump: term for a certain period - mostly summer months - that lack of good and interesting headlines (due to vacation of political entities), and thus, minor stories that usually wouldn’t be picked up make headlines in media.
The best and best only · Twitter update on a typical Sunday I thought I'd spend indoors
It’s been a year since I took off by plane to the Golden State. It’s been a year and I just can’t believe. A lot of things happened since then and this fact really proves that time flies. Working at Dynea, passing my community service and all the experiences that come along with it. At this time of the year I just wish I could board a plane that takes me somewhere else. The thought that I am trapped ALL summer is slightly stressing me out. Just slightly. Sarcasm End.
Not that I am sick of my life here in Austria, it is just that I am anticipating something that isn’t going to happen. Do you know that feeling. This year, no huge trip for poor Philipp. No vacation. Well, I’ll host an American friend for a week, so that should be fun, right? Touring Austria!
Thank you to my host family and all the new friends I made in California. I just wanted to thank you. Even after a year I keep thinking of you and I hope to be back soon. Promised. A YEAR, crazy!
Images like these of typical symbols like Las Vegas, San Francisco (Golden Gate, Transamerica Pyramid, etc.) and travel stuff keep following me. It looks like I can’t let go. No, I just can’t let go.
Here the lines of a song that people who fell in love with The City would sign without further ado to proof the finesse of San Francisco… I Left my Heart In San Francisco by Tony Bennett.
I left my heart in San Francisco, high on a hill it calls to me
To be where little cable cars climb halfway to the stars.
The morning fog may chill the air, I don’t care.
My love waits there in San Francisco, above the blue and windy sea, When I come home to you, San Francisco, your golden sun will shine for me.
Good to know that the golden sun will shine for anybody who goes to San Francisco.
Dorm, Villa or Apartment - What’s it gonna be for you, Master Philipp?
One point I hardly mentioned in the series I’m On My Way is where I’m going to stay once university doors close late at night until I rush into the first lectures scheduled for 6 am. U-Bahn (underground) stations are no option here.
This question is actually quite crucial and quintessential for me since this is going to be the one of the biggest changes of all. University, a pool of students ready to roll off several parties and catch some obligatory lectures whose absent would set up your parents and get you kicked out, itself should be exciting, at least during the first couple of days, but living on my own, oh this must be like holiday, except prolonged for the whole year. Haha. Like with any other great power comes great responsibility, Philipp…
Cheers.
Speaking of nostalgy. Here is one slip and funny quote that I would love to devote to JULIA (who just made her way to St Andrews University. All the best!): “What’s it called? Schweigen der Lämmer? Well, the movie’s called >>The Not Speaking of the sheep<<”
I wish you Happy Birthday. Hope to see you soon. This week I’ve sent a letter with a tiny little challenge to you. Enjoy and Partay Like A Rockstar, you Ninja!
Motorcycling with Hostdad. Maximum speed (blacked out).
Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk — Ja, da kommen Erinnerungen hoch.
Thanks Aloe!
